In the article "The Epidemic of Worry" by David Brooks, he expresses his thoughts and intake on this years election campaigns and gives thorough examples throughout. Making multiple different viewpoints but still being on topic, Brooks uses the term "worry" and "anxiety" a lot throughout, that being the key main theme of the article. Many interesting things were pointed out when explaining these terms. Brooks also talks about something I found interesting and enjoyed reading, that being the split between the nation between the poor nations and the more affluent nations.
Early on in the beginning of the article, Brooks talked about how there was both bad and good types of anxieties with some being more dangerous than others. Brooks dug deeper and went more into detail and what stood out to me was in paragraph four, David Brooks mentioned his book "Worrying" and the notes Francis O'Gorman took over it. Great examples were made when talking about how worrying can start off with "concrete anxiety" to help other readers including myself get a better understanding. One of the examples that helped myself was when he said "...Did I lock the back door? Is this headache a stroke?" That being, what I took out of it and what stood out to me was that we as humans can start off worrying about such basic things and it then spread to much larger but not as necessary things.
Further on in the article, David Brooks discuses the difference between anxiety rates in affluent nations as opposed to poor nations. The difference being the poor nations are less anxious than the more rich countries. You would think the opposite, at least I thought so until reading this article and this specific part. When the affluent people express worry, "it's usually related to the fear of missing out, and the dizziness of freedom." The more wealthy people often feel surrounded by the busyness and daily choices thrown at them. Brooks made an interesting statement in the last paragraph that tied into the discussion, the statement was "many affluent people use money to buy privacy, and so cut themselves off from both the deep relationships that could give them purpose..."

This past summer was filled with road trips, concerts, and a family trip to the beach. This summer was a big deal for me because it was my last summer living at home and last summer before starting my new life in College Station. `

In the beginning of summer my friends Aubrey and Josef decided to surprise me and take me to see one of my favorite bands in Terrell, Texas. The band was the Josh Abbott Band and all of us were really excited to see them, the three of us always went to their concerts and it would be the fourth concert of theirs to go to as a group. It wasn't a long drive, only two hours but with the rain it felt like we were never going to get there. We somehow managed to get there early though and that's when Josef told us how he got us meet & greet passes. I was over the moon excited. Meeting Josh, Caleb, Edward, Jedd, James, and my favorite Preston was an awesome experience and having them say we would be front row for the show made it that much more special. The concert begun and we sung every song and every lyric we could making sure we did the concert the right way. We left with our voices gone which we took as doing it right. Overall. from meeting the band, to being front row, and just road tripping with my two best friends made it the perfect way to begin my summer.

Towards the end of summer it was time for the annual family vacation that my moms whole side goes on every summer. This year my grandpa chose to go to Pensacola, Florida and rent a beach house there for all 13 of us. What was meant to be a eight hour drive turned into a 10 hour drive due to all the stops we made along the way, which at the time was worth it but once we would get back in the car we would just get sick of them. After arriving at the beach my aunts told all the cousins what we would be doing in the seven days that we would be there, some of those activities included shopping, parasailing, jet skiing, dolphin boat tours, family dinners and just long days at the beach. My favorite thing we did was the one thing we didn't have planned, all the cousins went to dinner together, went shopping, drove around in the jeep and just explore the island. Spending quality time with my cousins and sister was a big thing for me on the trip because for the first time in 18 years I would be away from them, being the oldest out of the seven of us I was the first to leave.

Hi, my name is Taylor Armstrong, I am from Arlington, Texas and I'm 18 years old. I went to Arlington High School and was the schools VP and Historian my senior year. I'm very outgoing, adventurous, loud, and athletic. I've three sisters and one little brother on the way but two are step and one is half. Macey my full blood sister is 13, Kaylee is also 13, Emily is 12, and the brother doesn't have a name yet but will soon with his due date being in November!

One thing I love to do more than anything is watch or play sports. I've played soccer, basketball, track, cross country, cheerleading, and my favorite I played which is volleyball. Luckily I was blessed and got to play volleyball and soccer in high school which was a goal of mine since I started those sports in elementary. My volleyball career ended though my sophomore year but I did get the chance to get MVP award that year which was my big goal in high school. Soccer was a different story, yes I did play and loved it up till sophomore year also but with me as a goalie and girls determined to get a goal at all costs sometimes, in one season I got three concussions therefore my parents made me stop playing all sports. I was devastated but now I'm over it and live my life watching ESPN basically every night.

In high school after the student athlete life was gone, I became more involved with student organizations such as the two I was in Student Council and Key Club. Most people know what student council is but not Key Club, Key Club is an organization where students volunteer and plan events from our own school to the DFW area. I met my best friends while in these clubs and got to have some pretty cool opportunities. Some of them included working at the Green Oaks School, putting together tailgates before Friday night football games, and working the Special Olympics. One out there and different opportunity was when I was working a festival in Dallas and a man came up to me and 3 other girls I was volunteering with and asked us to be in a charity fashion show. We said yes but were kind of skeptical because it was random man so we didn't even know if it would be "legit". It ended up being a semi big thing in Fort Worth after all and we ended up raising $10,000 which felt really good since majority of the girls and guys including myself didn't expect that and also didn't even know what we were doing.

Some other last and little small facts about me are I love going to concerts, especially country, hanging out with my friends, traveling, and working out. And also, I hope to further my education with double majoring in Education and Psychology.
